It wasn’t a difficult decision to identify that we wanted Exeter Foodbank to be our charity of the year for our 4th year in business.
Whilst during our team meetings this year we frequently go off-agenda by sharing our latest lockdown recipes and sourdough starter tips, this has not been the case for everyone.
Lockdown, and the fantastic work of the amazing Marcus Rashford, has highlighted the ongoing food poverty that faces 1 in 5 of the UK population. The closure of schools for most families has meant coming up with lunch ideas for hungry children and hearing the frequently asked questions, “Can I have a snack?” and “What’s for tea?” (at 3 in the afternoon!) But for many, the closure of schools has serious implications and it is organisations like Exeter Foodbank that offer a much needed lifeline.
Exeter Foodbank has been supporting the Exeter community since 2008, but it wasn’t until we attended one of James Court’s fabulous Natwest Boost Events that we learnt about the vital work that this charity does.
As a small contribution to the work they do, this year RyderSlade has pledged to donate £50 of food items from every permanent placement fee we invoice. Keeping a close eye on each month’s food priority lists we hope that over the course of this year we can make a significant total donation to this essential local charity.
